Message of Support for Canterbury-Bankstown Children's Festival 2019

The Hon Ms Gladys Berejiklian MP

Premier of New South Wales

I am delighted to send my best wishes to all the talented young people taking part in the 21st Children's Festival at Bankstown.

Over the past two decades, the Children's Festival Organisation has run 33 successful festivals across Sydney.

These festivals have promoted the wonderful cultural diversity of our great state.

The festivals have been integral to building understanding, respect and friendships between their young participants.

I commend the President of the Children’s Festival Organisation, Mr Thuat Van Nguyen OAM, and his team of volunteers for supporting our community harmony.

May everyone have a wonderful day at the festival.

The Hon David Coleman MP

Federal Member for Banks, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs

As the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, I extend my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating the 21st anniversary of the Children’s Festival in Bankstown.

The festival brings together children and families from Australia’s many different religious and cultural backgrounds, while promoting understanding and social cohesion amongst our youngest Australians.

Australia is a stronger nation because of our multicultural heritage. Our nation is full of migrant success stories — people who have helped build our nation. Our diversity has enlivened our communities, enhanced our cultural experiences and strengthened our nation.

Events like the Children’s Festival serve as a reminder of the truly vital role that families play in supporting our young people and shaping the next generation of Australians.

Families pass down the rich traditions of Australia’s many diverse cultures, and nurture and support creativity and curiosity within our children. They help to ensure that we continue to celebrate and embrace our heritage, and preserve our successful and united society long into the future.

I offer my best wishes to all attending the 21st Children’s Festival in Bankstown and acknowledge the Children’s Festival Organisation for its outstanding work in celebrating diversity in Australia.

The Hon Tony Burke MP

Federal Member for Watson, Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations, Shadow Minister for The Arts, Manager of Opposition Business

I would like to extend my congratulations and best wishes to the Children’s Festival Organisation for another successful year of the 21st Annual Children’s Festival.

The Children’s Festival has been a continuous successful event in celebrating diversity and social cohesion with an enjoyable display of various cultural performances, children’s parades and activities held annually at Bankstown.

I am privileged to acknowledge the contributions of President, Thuat Van Nguyen, OAM and the team at the Children’s Festival Organisation in cultivating a sense of unity and pride in our modern multicultural Australia.

To the schools, communities and youth groups participating in this festival, thank you for contributing to enriching Australia by promoting peace and building social cohesion amongst the community. I am honoured to represent such a multicultural and diverse community.

The Hon Jason Clare MP

Federal Member for Blaxland

Our local area is one of the most culturally diverse places in Australia. People from 130 different countries, speaking more than 60 different languages, call it home.

It is a place of churches, mosques and temples, where different languages grace our shops and where our homes welcome everyone, no matter where they were born, how they worship or what language they speak.

This is where the new Australia is being forged - a courageous, cosmopolitan, cohesive country, where being Australian is not about where you come from but about where you are going.

That’s why I am so pleased to support the Children’s Festival. Building a new Australia starts with our children — playing together and living in harmony.

The 21st anniversary of the Bankstown Children’s Festival is a great achievement and I would like to congratulate Mr Thuat Nguyen and his fantastic team. Together they are helping to build a better local community — a shining light to the rest of the world.

I encourage everyone in our local community to get involved in what will be a fantastic day

Mr Jihad Dib MP

State Member for Lakemba, Shadow Minister for Juvenile Justice, Shadow Minister for Youth, Shadow Minister Assisting on Multiculturalism

Ms Tania Mihailuk MP

State Member for Bankstown

I am delighted to extend my support to the upcoming 2019 Children's Festival to be held on Sunday 15th September at Paul Keating Park.

The Children’s Festival is a staple on our community calendar and is eagerly celebrated broadly across the region with new generations of children participating each year.

The Children's Festival continues to promote social harmony by providing a platform for community organisations and language groups to proudly display their respective customs and traditions through an array of performances, exhibitions and displays.

The 21st anniversary of the Bankstown Children’s Festival is an outstanding achievement and one that would not be possible without the dedication of President Mr Thuat Van Nguyen OAM and the organising committee. I also thank the festival's volunteers for assisting in ensuring the continuing success of this wonderful local event.

As always, I am delighted to offer my support for the 2019 Children's Festival and I look forward to joining the celebration.

Mr Joseph La Posta

Chief Executive Officer

It is a great pleasure and privilege to support the Children’s Festival in New South Wales, which has been staging events across Sydney for the past 21 years.

Under the leadership of Mr Thuat Van Nguyen OAM and with the support of hard-working volunteers, the festival has grown and garnered widespread support from community and youth groups.

More than a quarter of a million people have attended 33 separate events in Bankstown, Canterbury, Marrickville, Campbelltown and Sydney city.

The Children’s Festival allows young people to showcase their heritage and culture, fostering pride in their ancestral roots, and developing a deeper understanding and appreciation of different traditions in the broader community.

Multicultural NSW is delighted to support the festival with ongoing funding over the next four years. This will help with the costs of staging such large events and demonstrates the value of the Children’s Festival and its contributions to our multicultural state.

Clr Khal Asfour

Mayor of Canterbury Bankstown

I am delighted Canterbury-Bankstown has been chosen, once again, as the venue for the annual Children’s Festival in Paul Keating Park.

Now in its 21st year, this festival celebrates the great future awaiting our children, and the importance of cultural diversity and the benefits it brings.

The incredible diversity of age, culture and religion of those who attend, is a true example of the unity we enjoy in Canterbury-Bankstown. This is something we should all be proud of, and work together to protect and promote.

I congratulate the Children’s Festival Organisation, President Thuat Van Nguyen OAM, volunteers, supporters and sponsors, for their efforts and dedication in continuing to foster harmony in our community.

I wish everybody a most enjoyable day with their family, friends and loved ones, and welcome the visitors to our City. I trust you enjoy your stay and visit us again soon.
